Button's Birthday Bash at Adventure Aquarium

BUTTON’S BIRTHDAY BASH IS BACK!

Adventure Aquarium’s wildly popular Spring Break event returns April 16 – May 1 at Adventure Aquarium on the Camden Waterfront, featuring daily appearances by the Fisher-Price® LITTLE PEOPLE®!

Imagine…a delectable watermelon cake, sprinkled with colorful vegetable decorations. Only to be devoured within minutes by a 3,000 pound hippopotamus as a crowd sings “Happy Birthday.” This scene can only mean one thing…BUTTON’S BIRTHDAY BASH is back! Adventure Aquarium’s annual extravaganza honoring Button the hippo kicks off Saturday, April 16 and continues through May 1.

And if you thought the celebration was big in years past, then brace yourself – because this year’s event is going to be a non-stop party! The moment you step into Adventure Aquarium, prepare to be transported into hippo party central. From special, daily appearances by the Fisher-Price® LITTLE PEOPLE®, to exclusive behind-the-scenes tours of Button’s night quarters, there will be activities galore to entertain kids of all ages. You won’t be able to miss our larger-than-life decorations, including a massive birthday cake replica (perfect photo op!), as well as hippo-themed arts and crafts presented by A.C. Moore, and more!

BRAND NEW for 2011 is BUTTON’S BIRTHDAY BONANZA! Trust us when we say that it will (literally) be a circus in here. Join a cavalcade of roaming stilt walkers, jugglers, face painters and other circus performers as they take over Adventure Aquarium’s Rotunda each day throughout the celebration. And taking center stage will be the super-cute Fisher-Price® LITTLE PEOPLE®, making daily appearances for photos. Be sure to check the show schedule when you arrive for complete event details.

Plus, what birthday is complete without birthday cake?! The festivities culminate in our popular cake presentation, as guests sing “Happy Birthday” to Button while she feasts on her very own, specially-designed, hippo-friendly birthday cake. This event, happening twice daily throughout the celebration, is always a crowd-pleaser. After watching Button eat her cake, stop by Adventure Aquarium’s Feeding Frenzy Café to purchase desserts for YOURSELF, including hippo cupcakes, cookies and other treats! And don’t forget to leave a personalized birthday wish for Button on our gigantic coloring wall presented by Crayola®.

Throughout the day, guests will also be treated to special appearances by Gill, Adventure Aquarium’s lovable shark mascot. And, as a thank you for attending, each guest will receive a hippo party hat (while supplies last).

Interested in a meet & greet with Button and her hippo pal Genny? For an additional $15, guests can purchase tickets for a behind-the-scenes tour of our hippo night quarters. Not only are you getting an exclusive peek at a rarely-seen view of one of our most popular exhibits, but you will also be helping a great cause. Proceeds from each ticket sold go directly to IUCN International Hippo Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping hippos in the wild. Tickets are first come, first-serve, so get to Adventure Aquarium early to secure your backstage pass!

While at Adventure Aquarium, don’t forget to check out our West African River Experience exhibit, home to the birthday girl herself! Located in Zone D, this exhibit is one of the largest in Adventure Aquarium, featuring two Nile hippos, a porcupine, more than 1,000 fish, and some 8 species of West African birds. You’ll literally feel like you are stepping into Africa when you step foot in the exhibit, designed to mock an actual African land and river setting. In fact, the exhibit is the only one of its kind in the entire United States! Experience the magnificence of hippos as they effortlessly glide through the water; and attend live shows daily. All of this and more is offered in Adventure Aquarium’s West African River Experience exhibit throughout BUTTON’S BIRTHDAY BASH.
