Fun Things recently had an opportunity to visit The American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, PA. This is a great way to spend a few hours. The kids can climb inside of several helicopters. Just being so close to these complex flying machines can keep the interest of both boys and girls. The staff was very informative. Take a few hours out of your weekend schedule and visit this local treasure. This short video tour will give you a good idea what to expect.

Roller Racers employ an intriguing combination of lateral friction, force, and torque that lets riders make the

Starting Friday, July 22, Adventure Aquarium will introduce a brand new concept:“Summer Fun Nights,” extended hours in the summer months to provide guests with 3 extra hours of fun at America’s Most Touchable Aquarium. On weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights) from July 22 through Aug 14, Adventure Aquarium is extending its operating hours from 5 pm to 8 pm (Aquarium opens at 9:30 AM), so that guests can take full advantage of the added daylight that summer brings.

Turtle Travels, a family-friendly new exhibit opening at the Delaware Museum of Natural History on June 18, will be accompanied by local turtle photography and sculptures.

James F. White, Jr., of the Delaware Nature Society and co-author of Amphibians and Reptiles of Delmarva contributed photographs and descriptions of Delaware turtles for display. Nearby, bronze sculptures by noted artist André Harvey will depict painted, loggerhead, box and other types of turtles.

DETAILS: Broad stripes and bright stars will be on full display on Tuesday, June 14 at the National Constitution Center. In honor of Flag Day, visitors to the Center will learn how to properly display and care for the U.S. flag during special flag etiquette workshops. An interactive and entertaining spectacle, “The Star Spangled Banner Show” will teach visitors about the flag that flew over the Battle of Fort McHenry and moved Francis Scott Key to pen our America’s National Anthem.



A flag folding ceremony of giant proportions will occur at 1:00 p.m. Visitors will watch as staff members of the Center fold a giant 20' X 38' flag in the Grand Hall lobby.



Children also will have the opportunity to proudly display their own versions of red, white and blue with craft projects including crepe paper flags and stars and stripe wands and pinwheels.

Last week Fun Things was given the chance to visit the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia. We were invited to check out their newest exhibit Rainforest Rhythms. Each time I visit the Please Touch Museum I fall in love with it some more. I love that the museum encourages young children to use their imaginations and learn through play. Rainforest Rhythms
This fun interactive exhibit opened at the museum on May 28th and will be there until September 6th. Children will experience the rainforest by beating conga drums, turning rain stick logs, listening to tropical rapids, and interacting with jungle animals.

PTM’s youngest visitors will be able to play in Rhythm’s “Storybook Cottage,” a comfortable area that is toddler friendly. Next to the cottage, children can play the forest marimba with a pair of mallets, or pretend to paddle down a river in a dugout canoe.

The Delaware Museum of Natural History celebrates the science of small at Nano Day on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Family-friendly activities illustrate the world at the nanoscale, making this new field of science accessible and fun.

Visitors can investigate super-thin materials used in solar cell technology, forces stronger than gravity, and sand that doesn't get wet -- even underwater! Other activities include using your nose as a nanodetector and measuring yourself in nanometers.

"Nano" is the scientific term for one-billionth, from the Greek working meaning "dwarf." Nanoscale refers to measurements of 1 - 100 nanometers, where many common materials exhibit unusual properties such as lower resistance to electricity or faster chemical reactions.

Nano Day at the Delaware Museum of Natural History is part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering supported by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network. The curtain is going up for the 50th season of one of the largest, most engaging, custom model train displays in America. The Choo Choo Barn –Traintown, U.S.A.® - located in Strasburg, PA, opens for the season Saturday, March 12, 2011. Featuring more than 150 animations and 22 operating trains, this 1,700 square foot handcrafted, work-of-art is packed with action as it details the many familiar landmarks and scenes Lancaster County has to offer.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary, the Choo Choo Barn is offering a special promotion for anyone turning 50 during 2011. Visitors who hit the BIG 5-0 anytime this year can celebrate with free admission to the massive train display. A week before the holidays my family and I had the chance to visit Adventure Aquarium in Camden NJ. This was our first visit and it will not be our last. The aquarium is currently holding it's Christmas Celebration, so the aquarium is decorated for the holidays and the shows have a holiday theme.

We started out in Adventure Zone D, because we wanted to see the hippos. The viewing area to watch them was large and the fish that where in the tank with them were fascinating to watch. Next we made our way over to the Shark Realm, this was the coolest part. We spent a long time in the shark tunnel watching the sharks swimming over us and beside us.

Next we went to Adventure Zone A. This part was neat because we had the chance to touch sand sharks. We also had the chance to see Scuba Santa and one of his elves. Because of the holidays the scuba divers dress in Santa outfits, but even if your there during the non holiday time you can still watch the divers.

We also had the chance to check out Stingray beach which is really cool because not only can you touch a stingray you can put your feet in and walk around where they swim. If you know that your child might be interested in doing something like this make sure they have pants on that can roll up easily.

We loved visiting the Adventure Aquarium. We really liked that they had many opportunities where we could touch animals. At one point we got the chance to touch a jelly fish. There were also lots of hands on exhibits for the kids to learn more about the animals habitats.

The aquarium has a cafeteria where you can purchase food and during warmer weather there is an outdoor seating area so you could pack a lunch and eat outside.
