The West Chester University Dance Team is excited to offer a youth clinic for participants in grades K-6! The clinic is an excellent opportunity for the dancers to gain exposure to the team and learn the Golden Ram's traditions. Dancers can expect individualized attention from West Chester University Dance Team members, new choreography, and an overall fun experience. The clinic provides a great introduction to jazz, hip-hop, and pom styles. Dancers will also learn fun routines and receive a t-shirt. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable shorts or pants to dance.

Summer at Twirl Means Sold Out Camps and Lots of Fun!



Summer is a slow time for most dance studios, but not at Twirl, located in Newtown Square. Summertime is one of the busiest seasons for Twirl, who already sold out some of their 2020 summer performance camps hours after registration opened. A 2019 Best of Main Line winner for Summer Day Camp, Twirl offers high-energy, crazy fun camps with super popular themes like Frozen II, Star Wars, Zombies (the Disney Channel movies, including Zombies 2 which will debut on Feb. 14), Trolls World Tour (the new Trolls movie that premiers in April), and the Lego movie series. Twirl owner and former Disney dancer Sam Sinns anticipated the popularity of Twirl summer camps this season and has already added overflow camps to compensate for some of the sold-out camps. So there’s still room!!!
“What makes Twirl summer camps so popular?” muses Sam. “I guess it’s because we commit to every theme 110%. We make sure that every day is action-packed. And our staff is off the rails in their energy and enthusiasm.” When asked to describe what goes on in a typical Twirl half-day camp, he says every day is like a giant three-hour party. There’s dancing, trivia games, obstacle courses, crafts, snack, and it’s go go go from one activity to the other with no downtime. And every camp ends with a performance for family and friends, which is definitely one of the highlights.



Along with themed camps, Twirl offers a summer dance intensive where students feed their passion for dance with daily classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Acrobatics, and Hip Hop. And there’s also a full-day Seussical Jr. musical theatre performance camp in partnership with The Handwork Studio. In Seussical camp, performers will spend the days rehearsing Seussical Jr. and will also sew their own costumes, which they get to keep. The folks from The Handwork Studio will set up an entire costume making wonderland at Twirl including sewing machines, and walk the performers through the process of making their own costumes. Twirl camp “quadruple threats” will sing, dance, act, and sew every day throughout the week, which ends with two performances of Seussical Jr.
There’s a lot going on at Twirl with themed camps, summer dance intensive, and musical theatre costume making camp. “Summer at Twirl is one of my favorite times of the year,” remarks Sam. “To see the smiles on the kids’ faces and how excited they are to walk through the door every day. There’s nothing like it!”

The classically trained dancers of Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet Society offer a professional-level production of The Nutcracker that is popularly priced for all family members to enjoy. The ninety-minute performance is ideal for young audience members ages 4 to 94! Take a journey with Marie to the kingdom of snow and to the land of the sweets to meet fascinating citizens from throughout the world! From a family holiday party to an exciting battle with toy soldiers and mice, to dancing snowflakes, and even a Sugar Plum Fairy, this affordable, yet finely produced production of The Nutcracker, featuring the beautiful music by Tchaikovsky, will be the ideal way to kick-off the holiday season! Performances take place the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.

Brandywine Ballet, Chester County’s oldest non-profit ballet company, is proud to announce the premiere of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as its 2012-13 season-culminating performance, May 3 - 5, 2013. Brandywine Ballet continues its residency at Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, 700 S. High Street, West Chester, PA. Individual tickets range $25-$40. Brandywine Ballet’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz will feature world premiere choreography by Brandywine Ballet’s Resident Choreographer, Nancy Page, who wowed audiences with her recent presentations of Beauty & the Beast and Dracula. With more than forty five professional, pre-professional and student trainees, the Brandywine Ballet Company continues to bring high production values, innovative choreography and entertaining ballet to the greater Chester County area. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is sure to be a new fan favorite and fine addition to the Company’s repertoire.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a timeless story about the power of friendship, self-confidence and family. It is based on author L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s stories, which follows the adventures of a young girl, Dorothy, as she is transported from the comforts of her family home to a magical land fraught with conflict, mystery and fantastical creatures. Traveling along a Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy meets and is befriended by three jovial characters: a Tin Man, a Scarecrow, and a Cowardly Lion each on their own personal quest. But beware, for Dorothy and her comrades are also pursued by a Wicked Witch, determined to retrieve Dorothy’s magical slippers. How will Dorothy combat the Wicked Witch, help her friends and find a way back home? Can the mysterious Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City be the answer? Audiences may know the answer to these questions, but seeing the story unfold as told through the beauty, grace and athleticism of ballet will be a new experience and real treat for young and old alike.
