Philadelphia public radio station WXPN and its award-winning Kids Corner radio program are presenting the inaugural KindieComm. “Kindie” is an abbreviated term that stands for independent kids’ music: a style of children’s music that melds the sensibility of the singer-songwriter with themes aimed at kids under twelve years of age.

The focus of KindieComm is on creating, distributing and promoting independent music for kids. KindieComm will present seminars and workshops geared specifically for this community. “This new annual gathering will inspire and inform musicians and the community of folks who support and maintain the Kindie music genre,” said Kids Corner host and KindieComm co-producer Kathy O’Connell.

In addition, early registration for the inaugural KindieComm has been extended to Friday, May 23. For full information and to register for KindieComm 2014, visit http://kindiecomm.org.  For more information about Kids Corner, visit http://kidscorner.org.  WXPN’s website is http://xpn.org

TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA
(Prairie Grove, AR) Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet, the musicians of Trout Fishing in America, met in Houston more than three decades ago and have been playing together ever since. Their music has won GRAMMY nods, multiple Parents’ Choice and Indie awards, and their songwriting workshops have been described as “life changing” for many. Considered the ‘house band’ of Kids Corner, Trout Fishing in America continue to enjoy performing to generations of ears, time and time again.

DAN ZANES
(Brooklyn, NY) Dan Zanes occupies a unique place in American music where sea shanties, English music hall, North American and West Indian folk music, Mexican son jarocho, the spirit of early rock-and-roll, and soulful originals collide. With his band Dan Zanes and Friends, he has toured around the world sharing his handmade 21st-century social music with enthusiastic crowds of kids and kid sympathizers. For more than a decade, GRAMMY Award winner Dan Zanes has been presenting his musical friends to the world.

LUCKY DIAZ & THE FAMILY JAM BAND
(Los Angeles, CA) Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis have been named ‘THE face of kindie music’ by the Washington Post, ‘The Rolling Stones of Kids Music’ by the Style Network, and People magazine called their album the #1 in COOLEST kids’ music! They create indie music sounds that are rooted in their whimsical child-friendly imaginations. This year, their ¡Fantastico! became the first album ever to win a Latin GRAMMY by an American group in its category, Best Children’s Album in 2014.

JENNIFER GASOI
(Montreal, CA) 2014 GRAMMY Award Winner for Best Children’s Album and two-time JUNO Award-nominated singer/songwriter Jennifer Gasoi is quickly making a name for herself in the world of kindie music. Jennifer has a unique gift for writing and performing upbeat, intelligent, jazz-based children’s songs that adults love, too. The lyrics are clever, the melodies catchy, and the rhythms undeniably danceable. Jennifer is passionate about living life to the fullest and creating music and live shows that reflect this passion.

JUSTIN ROBERTS
(Chicago, IL) Justin Roberts is truly one of the “all-stars” of the kindie scene. He logs thousands of miles on the road each year, leading some to call him the hardest-working man in children’s show business. With numerous national awards, GRAMMY nominations, industry recognition and a devoted fan base, Justin and The Not Ready for Naptime Players dish out unexpectedly intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents.
