Explorer Mornings at Brandywine River Museum


Participate in one or all of these workshops, designed for children ages 10 to 14. Each program includes a thematic guided tour followed by a hands-on art project. Sessions take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

July 5: Old and New Tricks
Study techniques for making painted objects look real, then experiment with your own ideas in collage.

July 19: Focus on Animals
Explore how Jamie Wyeth captures animals’ personalities in the “Farm Work” exhibition. Next, use oil pastels to make animal pictures.

July 26: Putting It into Perspective
Analyze artists’ use of line, perspective and scale in depictions of interior and exterior spaces. Afterwards, draw the museum building from different angles in pencil and charcoal.

Advanced Explorer Mornings are free for members and children under age 6 and included with museum admission.


Museum Explorer Mornings
Participate in one or all of these workshops designed for children ages 3 to 10 accompanied by an adult. Each program includes a thematic guided tour followed by a hands-on art project.

June 30: Learning to Look
Discover the elements of art on a museum tour and create a collage filled with lines, shapes and colors.

July 7: Mix and Match Colors
Investigate how artists express themselves with color. Next, design a colorful composition using oil pastels.

July 14: Art and Nature
View the beauty of nature through the eyes of artists. Afterwards, make your own natural wonder with leaf and texture rubbings.

July 21: Who Am I?
Solve riddles to uncover interesting people in paintings throughout the museum. Later, assemble your own imaginative character from mixed materials.

July 28: Oink, Oink, Moo, Moo
Observe (and imitate) cows, pigs and more in the exhibition, “Farm Work by Jamie Wyeth.” Next, sculpt your favorite animals from Crayola’s Model Magic©.

Two sessions will be held each morning: Session A, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Session B, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is requested and space is limited.
